Facebook Fundraising Guide

It’s easy to rally your friends and family through Facebook fundraising, where people can donate to help kids with brain tumors in just a few clicks without leaving Facebook! Plus, when you select the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation as your nonprofit of choice, Facebook’s donation processing fees are waived.

This means 100% of donations made on Facebook benefit the PBTF!

Facebook fundraising is a great fit for many occasions, including birthdays, school graduations, anniversaries, awareness months, and in honor of loved ones. You can even use Facebook fundraising to help raise money for Ride for Kids, Starry Night, Vs. Cancer and other PBTF events.

The following guide offers step-by-step instructions for setting up a Facebook fundraiser, sample fundraiser titles and descriptions you can use, and instructions for getting your Facebook donations credited to a specific PBTF event. Click one of the links below to jump to the section you need:

Questions? Need help? Contact us at donations@curethekids.org.

1. Set up your Facebook fundraiser. Get started by clicking here and follow Facebook's instructions to set up your fundraiser for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. If you’re fundraising for a specific event or initiative, include its name in your title (example: Katherine's Los Angeles Ride for Kids Fundraiser).

2. Customize your Facebook fundraiser’s description and cover image. You know why raising money for kids with brain tumors is important, but your friends and family may not. Use Facebook's fundraiser description to give supporters a reason to donate. Sample descriptions and fundraiser cover photos are provided below.

3. Make it personal. You're asking for money for a good reason - to save children’s lives. Although the template text we’ve provided can help get you started, we recommend sharing why this cause personally matters to you and your family.

4. Spread the word. After you launch your fundraiser, invite your Facebook friends, email contacts and other social media contacts to donate. You can also invite up to three Facebook friends to co-host your fundraiser. And don’t forget to post reminders -- it can take an average of three asks to get a donation.

5. Show a donation’s impact. Every dollar counts in the fight against childhood brain tumors. The PBTF’s social media toolkit can help you raise awareness about the cause. You can also share one of our Starlights about the pediatric brain tumor families your supporters are helping.

Are you hosting a Facebook fundraiser to support your fundraising efforts for a Ride for Kids, Starry Night, Vs. Cancer or other PBTF event?

That’s great! Please email donations@curethekids.org with your Facebook fundraiser’s title, URL and start and end dates so that we can credit the total amount raised to your other PBTF fundraising efforts. We also advise naming your Facebook fundraiser to reflect your fundraising efforts (i.e. Sarah’s Atlanta Starry Night Fundraiser).

Please note that donations made on Facebook are manually added by our team to your PBTF event fundraising page after we receive the donations from Facebook. To ensure your Facebook donations are added to your PBTF fundraising page before your event, please see the processing timeline below:

  • Donations made between the 1st and 15th of the month will be added to your PBTF event fundraising page between the 20th and 25th of the same month.
  • Donations made between the 15th and last day of the month will be added to your PBTF event fundraising page between the 5th and 10th of the next month.

Visit Facebook’s Fundraising and Donation FAQs page to learn more.

The following fundraiser titles and descriptions can help you show your friends and family why you’re fundraising on Facebook. These titles and descriptions are customized for Facebook fundraisers in honor of birthdays, special events, awareness months, treatment milestones and much more. Please update the text in brackets before publishing.
