PBTF President Completes Harvard Business School Executive Leadership Program
To help the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation further deliver on its mission, President and CEO Robin Boettcher recently completed the Harvard Business School’s “Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management” program.
Boettcher was one of 160 nonprofit leaders who were accepted into this annual executive leadership program designed to educate, inspire and support leaders to tackle tough challenges and make a difference in the world.
This year’s class was comprised of leaders from 21 countries representing nonprofits focused on health and social services, education, the arts and more, ranging in size from $2M to $50M in annual revenues.
“A bonus for me was my eight-person living and learning group, which provided an opportunity for deeper discovery, discussion and bonding with nonprofit leaders from Africa, Australia, Canada and Singapore,” says Boettcher.
Participants in this intensive week-long program benefited from reading and discussing real-life business and nonprofit case studies and from peer consultations on strategic issues of importance to their respective organizations.
Key focus areas included leading growth and transformation, measuring organizational effectiveness, building highly effective staff and board teams and deciding when to scale an organization and when to replicate its programs.
“This program provided incredible insight, which will help guide the PBTF’s execution of our new Strategic Plan’s ambitious goals,” says Boettcher. “Innovative methods for analysis, planning for growth and measuring outcomes will be invaluable as we work to make a bigger impact for kids battling brain tumors.”
Boettcher’s participation in this program adds to her 30 years of experience in health nonprofit management and communications. As president and CEO of the PBTF, she is charged with leading the world’s largest non-government funder dedicated to children’s brain tumor research and significantly increasing support for the 28,000 affected patients and their families.
